The goal at Metabolic Meals has always been to improve health first which in turn makes fat loss easier. Rather than focusing on portion control and calorie counting, we emphasize food quality, nutrient ratios, and food rotation.

It’s not uncommon for us to hear about a client that has lost 50+ pounds or even lower/eliminate their insulin dosage. What has amazed me the most, however, is when we are told by clients with auto-immune diseases, that their symptoms are nearly gone! I firmly believe that this is due to the fact that we are gluten free.

gluten foodsIt is estimated that 70% of the population has a gluten sensitivity and from the blood work we have seen- it may be closer to 80%. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and spelt. Other common grains such as oats are actually gluten free, but often cross contaminated during shipping. Over 55 diseases are linked to gluten consumption and I’m sure more will be found in time.

Many of these conditions are due to the inflammatory response from eating gluten. Leaky gut, osteoarthritis, and accelerated aging can all be caused by inflammation. It should be noted that an anti-inflammatory effect can be noticed after eliminating gluten. Many people that retain water will see a natural diuretic effect in under a week. You may also be quite surprised how much better your joints feel after a week or two without gluten.

Gluten consumption also makes it much harder to lose body fat. This is due to the fact that gluten raises insulin and cortisol while ramping down thyroid function. That metabolic shift will increase body fat very quickly.

Some people are jumping on the gluten free bandwagon, fruit and vegbut are still making poor food choices. Just because your favorite candy or potato chip is gluten free does not make you immune to gaining bodyfat. Macro-nutrient ratios must still remain a priority for health and fat loss. Focus on grass fed/free range proteins, organic vegetables, nuts/seeds, and a moderate amount of gluten free carbohydrates from fruits, yams, rice and ancient grains. If your diet looks like this the majority of the time, you can look forward to optimal health, more energy and a better body composition!
