Reading Time:

If you’ve been on our plan for awhile or had a chance to view our menu, you may have noticed that some days we serve entrées that contain carbohydrates and some days we stay strictly low-carb. This concept is called “carb cycling”. So why do we do this and what are the benefits?

When someone is unhealthy and overweight they most likely have some level of insulin resistance. This happens when an individual eats too many of the wrong carbohydrates for an extended period of time. A high carbohydrate diet will cause the body to secrete a large amount of insulin which will pack fat on quickly. This is one reason that many people have short-term success with a low-carbohydrate plan-it keeps insulin output low. While this may be true, there are also some negatives to staying low-carb all of the time.

Long-term low carb diets can be catabolic (muscle wasting) and slow the thyroid down causing a slower metabolism and less energy.

Carb cycling is a way to get all of the fat loss benefits of ”low carb eating” without the drawbacks. By strategically putting a moderate amount of low glycemic/gluten- free carbs on the plan at certain times; we can keep the metabolism high and replenish glycogen stores.

When following the plan strictly, you can expect fat loss while maintaining or even gaining muscle depending on what meal plan you select. Maybe you have tried to lose fat by lowering your calories to rock-bottom levels only to fail and rebound up even higher. You can be confident that Metabolic Meals is a plan that you CAN actually stick with and accomplish your goals in a healthy manner!
